What We Do

Bluebird Guides offers back country ski trips and private guiding for groups and individuals.

Intro...Our approach to ski touring trips is fully determined by the group we’re with. It’s your holiday, so you set the pace and the level of terrain you want to ski. So with this in mind, we always try to match group our trips so that everyone has a good time with zero pressure. With hut trips, we often ski as two smaller groups to accommodate the ambitious pace as well as the more relaxed pace.

Day and Multi Day Trips We provide day and multi day ski touring trips that are either hut or hotel based throughout the winter months. These are great for people that don’t have enough time to go on longer trips.

Lodge Trips We bring groups (typically 6-15 people) into backcountry lodges in Canada for weeklong ski trips. There are many lodges to choose from and access is usually by helicopter from a staging area that you can travel to by car. girl

A good option for singles and couples is to sign up for a trip we have scheduled. Or you can call us to plan and guide a trip for your organized group. Even if your group can only partially fill a lodge we can sometimes find another half group to join yours to make the lodge rental affordable. These trips can either be self-catered, or full service where we handle all the logistics. We can, and definitely recommend having our cook join us for the week.

The third option is for us (one or two guides) to join a personal lodge trip you have already booked to provide guiding for you. This is popular with experienced groups when stability and weather look questionable for their week. Plus we’ve been to most of these lodges and know where to find the best skiing even when conditions are less than perfect.

The other kinds of guided trips we specialize in (usually late winter) are base camp style and ski expeditions/traverses.

Base Camp Trips are exactly what they sound like. We fly into a mountain range and set up camp at or near tree line spending the day ski touring then returning home to the same camp each day. Might sound rugged to some but these trips are actually fairly laid back. We eat very well and have many of the luxuries of a hut.

Ski Expeditions are objective driven ski trips. Usually involving a big climb of some sort so mountaineering skills are a good asset but not always absolutely necessary. Trip length is determined by the size and distance of the mountain to be climbed.

Ski Traverses are more demanding than the above trips where as we carry big packs and move from point A to B nearly every day. Typically food and fuel caches will be placed along the way to ease the burden of the pack. Traverses vary in length and difficulty, from a few days to a couple of weeks There are a couple of traverses that are hut-to-hut but most involve winter camping. We can have our cook ski along with us on these trips as well.
